Hypnotherapy Sessions – Q & A’s
Cognitive Hypnotherapy sessions are available in both Cambridge and Huntingdon whichever is the most convenient for you to attend.
Hypnotherapy sessions last between 60 and 75 minutes so that we can get the most out of each session. Your first hypnotherapy session may last longer as I like to take my time to get to know you and find out how your issue is affecting you. It is important that we take the time in the first session to explore how your issue is affecting you and what you would like to achieve from our sessions. It is also important for you to be aware that therapy is a partnership where we will work together in a way that is comfortable to you.

I may ask you to carry out certain tasks between sessions with your agreement.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
During the first session we will explore the issue that is affecting you and how it is holding you back in your life. I will ask you a variety of questions designed to give me a detailed picture of your issue and to help me decide how best to help you. Subsequent sessions will review your progress and we will continue to work together using a range a therapeutic techniques. You will always work within the bounds of what you are comfortable with.
What is trance?
Although hypnosis and trance states have been used by people since the dawn of time, cognitive hypnotherapy doesn’t believe that trance is a special state. In fact, the trance state is a natural state of awareness that we go into every day in response to the thoughts that we are having – a type of focused concentration. When you are in a relaxed trance state your brain waves slow down from beta waves into more relaxed alpha waves and sometimes theta waves. In this relaxed and creative state the brain is more open to positive suggestions and able to remove negative blockages. You will always be aware, in control and able to respond.
Hypnosis – what does it feel like?
Hypnosis is similar to day-dreaming in that we go in and out of different trance states all the time. During a therapeutic session, most people experience hypnosis as deeply relaxing and afterwards feel calm and revitalised. This feeling may continue for a while afterwards.
Is hypnosis safe?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is very safe. Depending on the issue we are dealing with you may experience some emotion, but this will be temporary and accessed with the intention of helping overcome past issues.
Will I be in control?
Contrary to popular belief, no-one can hypnotise you against your will or make you carry out suggestions that go against your beliefs and values. You will be aware and able to respond and usually only a light to moderate trance state is needed to effect change.
How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions will depend on the issue and your progress, but Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy technique and my aim is to help you feel better as quickly as possible. Most issues can be dealt with in several sessions and others may take a few more. We will review your progress each week so you need never pay for more than you need.
I understand that sometimes appointments may have to be postponed or cancelled for various reasons but if you are unable to attend your appointment please aim to give me 24 hours notice so that I can offer your session to someone else.
